AI Pricing: Your Face, Your Price?
Walmart is replacing paper price tags with little screens on every shelf in the country by the end of this year. The screens change from a back office in a second. Some stores already have cameras at the door that recognize faces. And from what has been reported, the same chain holds patents on using what it knows about a shopper to set a price.
Nobody has wired those pieces together, at least not that we know of. But this episode walks the picture anyway: two shoppers, recognized at the door, two numbers on the same shelf, and two totals at the register that neither one of them can compare.
The trigger-at-the-door scenario is speculation, clearly labelled, anchored to the reported rollout, the reported patents and the entrance cameras already in use. The prices on screen are examples, not quoted prices. Sources below.
